Danell Lynn has had work go to the Louvre in Paris France… to Galleries in Sacramento, CA and is in collections from New York, to Germany to Washington State and Arizona.
She was born into a traveling family; a gift for which she was able to see the world and experience many cultures other than her own. Many of her works reflect the distinction of world and indigenous cultures.
As a child she realized she viewed the world a little differently than others did. As she grew and learned how to express her “mind’s eye” art was given birth. When she was young she would work with whatever was there, and then was introduced to oils in high school…and a life long affair began. “I fell in love!”
She had binders full of collage as she entered into college. It was not until six years later, that one day she combined her painting passion with love of collage. Thus the mix media paintings now developed. Her love of words and expressive thought has also followed her into adulthood. She still “needs” to put her mind on paper and canvas.
She attended International Fine Arts College (IFAC) in Miami, FL. While attending IFAC she won the opportunity to participate in the Air France Competition, 1 of 5 in the United States awarded with “wearable art,” jewelry presentation in the Louvre in Paris, France. She was also the recipient of Avant Garde designer of the year award. She was an assistant couture fashion designer for a year for Gerry Kelly Couture and found art inspiration through the fabrics that touch our skin.
Artist Statement:
My works are created in the figurative secessionism art genres. As in Vienna Secession my works combine a decorative style with a strong sense of color. The paintings pull you into the emotional outreach of those displayed, and invite the observer to feel a sophisticated sense of warmth in their soul.
My primary medium is oil on canvas. I find that oil is ideal for capturing the soul and emotion of subjects that I am projecting. I also use paper mosaic to add a textured depth to my works…it helps make the voice stronger. The background “word” collage in my pieces comes from the antique book The Citadel, by AJ Cronin, 1938. The pieces are developed first and then I search through the text to find words or phrases that relate to the emotion in the painting.
Most works are done in serial art - works made from a series of component parts to form a larger series of work. I like the cohesiveness a series holds and the statement it projects continuing through a certain theme. Many of the singular works are commissions or thoughts that can not leave the mind, other than through a canvas, but don’t necessarily work with a series. I am attracted to the realistic representation of the human form but also the surrealist aspect of the world that can revolve around us through emotion, imagination and even ignorance.
Thank you for you appreciation of my works and the belief in the strength and the power of art in our lives.
